Grint merupakan sulung dari lima bersaudara. Ia mempunyai seorang adik laki-laki, James, dan tiga adik perempuan: Georgina, Samantha, and Charlotte. Saat masih kecil, Grint berperan dalam Pertunjukan sekolah dan kelompok teater lokal (Top Hat Stage School)
Pada Juli 2004, Grint lulus dari Richard Hale School, dan mengambil pelatihan GCSE di antaranya dalam bidang seni dan bahasa Jerman.

Hobby : belajar mengendarai unicycle, menggambar, main gitar dan bermain golf
